Bio

Jean-Baptiste Soulard is a singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist whose passion for writing, composition and contemporary songwriting emerged at an early age.

Originally from Saint-Étienne, he has pursued a prolific career as a musician since 2008, collaborating on a wide range of artistic projects in the Paris region.

A founding member of the indie rock band Palatine since 2015, he released his debut solo album, Le Silence et l’eau (Silence and Water), in 2020 as a singer and composer. Inspired by Sylvain Tesson’s bestselling book In the Forests of Siberia, the concept album features renowned guest artists including Blick Bassy, JP Nataf, Raphaël Personnaz, Emily Loizeau and Erik Truffaz. Both the album and its accompanying stage production—a unique blend of music and contemporary dance—received critical acclaim.

Originally trained as a guitarist, he has toured and recorded with French and international artists such as Clara Ysé, Roni Alter, Chico César, Brooke Sharkey, Awa Ly and Buridane.

He also works regularly as an arranger for various record labels and composes for theatre and dance. Since 2022, he has collaborated with the DCA – Philippe Decouflé Company.

2024 – He released Les Embolies, a collaborative project with singer Roni Alter, who was nominated for the 2019 Victoires de la Musique. Alongside the album, the duo released a short film of the same name, directed by Romain Winkler and produced by Vue du Phare Production, inspired by the project’s original compositions.

2025 – Once again collaborating with Roni Alter, he composed the original score for the HBO Max series Le Sens des Choses, directed by Keren Ben Rafael and starring Manu Payet, Noémie Lvovsky and Éric Elmosnino. Their work was nominated for both the ACS Award for Best French TV Series Score and the European Award for Best TV Series Score.

For the stage, the duo also composed the music for Yuval Rozman’s latest theatre production, Au nom du ciel, which is currently touring across France.

2026 – Jean-Baptiste Soulard is currently composing an orchestral work for choreographer Lisa Robert‘s next dance production. A dancer with the DCA – Philippe Decouflé Company, she will premiere the new creation in the coming season.

He is also co-writing and composing the music for a documentary about the Amazon, alongside Franco-Peruvian musician Julio Portilla.
